Shopify import finished—but the product images are missing?

A successful CSV upload does not prove Shopify could fetch every image. Check one image URL and its product row first; keep the original export untouched.

SHORT ANSWER

Check the link, then check the row.

Shopify imports images from the URLs in your product CSV. A URL must point to an image Shopify can access publicly—not a sign-in page or a cloud-drive preview. Product image and variant image fields are different, and additional image rows need the correct product handle.

Save a copy of the CSV. Inspect one affected product and test a small import before changing existing products in bulk.

FIVE CHECKS

Find the failing image path.

01
Possible cause

The URL opens a page, not an image

A cloud-drive sharing or preview link can look valid but resolve to HTML rather than the file.

Next step: Open one URL without signing in. Use a direct, publicly accessible image URL or upload the file to Shopify Content → Files and copy its link.

02
Possible cause

The host blocks Shopify

A link can work for you but require a cookie, expire, or refuse requests from another service.

Next step: Try a representative direct URL from a signed-out browser. If access is restricted, move the image to a host Shopify can retrieve.

03
Possible cause

Image rows lost their product handle

Sorting or editing rows can separate extra image rows from the product they belong to.

Next step: For each additional image row, keep the matching URL handle and its image URL together. Check one product before changing the full file.

04
Possible cause

Product and variant images are mixed up

A product image URL and a variant image URL serve different fields in Shopify’s CSV.

Next step: Compare the column names with a fresh Shopify export or sample and put each URL in the intended product or variant image field.

05
Possible cause

An old exported URL no longer exists

Images removed after the original export may leave stale links in a CSV you later re-import.

Next step: Check the original image location, replace broken URLs, then test one small import rather than repeatedly importing the full file.

WHAT THE FREE TOOL CAN TELL YOU

A local scan is a first pass, not a remote image test.

In your browser
  • Flag image values that are not complete HTTP(S) URLs.
  • Find selected CSV structure, header, and row issues before upload.
Still requires Shopify or a human check
  • Whether a remote host lets Shopify download an image.
  • Whether the image appears on the intended product or variant after import.

The free check does not fetch image URLs or upload your CSV. A clean report cannot guarantee an import result.

SAFE RETEST

Fix one example before the full catalog.

  1. 01
    Preserve

Keep the original export and work on a separate copy.

  2. 02
    Inspect

Choose one missing image and inspect its URL and CSV row.

  3. 03
    Correct

Use a working direct image URL and the intended image column and handle.

  4. 04
    Test

Import a small representative file; review Shopify’s preview and result.

  5. 05
    Expand

Only apply the confirmed fix to the remaining affected rows.
