DEMONSTRATION CASE · SYNTHETIC DATA

Turn two Excel sheets into one exception list.

A small Python workflow matched orders to payment records, calculated expected differences, and separated the rows that needed a human decision.

10synthetic orders checked
2exceptions isolated
80%records reconciled
0formula errors found

THE PROBLEM

Manual matching hides the rows that actually matter.

The demonstration workbook contained an order sheet and a platform-payment sheet. A useful result required more than a lookup: missing transactions, refunds, and amount differences had to be labelled consistently without changing the source sheets.

01

Read separate sources

Load the original order and payment worksheets independently.

02

Match and calculate

Join on order number and calculate differences with explicit refund handling.

03

Classify exceptions

Mark missing payments and non-zero amount differences for review.

04

Deliver review sheets

Produce a full reconciliation sheet and a smaller exception-only sheet.

DELIVERABLES

Results that can be checked without reading the script.

  • Reconciled workbook with source fields, difference, and status
  • Exception-only worksheet for follow-up
  • Reusable Python script and simple operating instructions
  • Validation summary with row and exception counts
